Baby Bottle Update

By Jerry Thacker

The Winter 2002 issue of At the Center included the article "Nickel-and-Diming It for Life." Dinah Monahan, executive director of the Women's Choice Pregnancy Clinic, outlined the process of raising funds by distributing baby bottles to be filled with change and returned to the center. The process includes the following:

  • Contact the churches in your area with a letter outlining the project
  • Establish a liaison in each church to coordinate the fundraiser
  • Determine the total membership of the committed church (deduct 25% from total)
  • Purchase baby bottles and label them
  • Have liaisons distribute to the churches
  • Collect filled bottles on designated date

Dinah said, "Hour for hour, dollar for dollar, our 'Change for Life' fundraiser yields the most for the least amount of time and effort invested."

On August 13, 2002, I attended a CPC Encouragement Day in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, sponsored by Baptists for Life of Grand Rapids, Michigan. (Tom Lothamer is the executive director.) One participant, Cindy Mann of Cornerstone Pregnancy Center in Salem and Bridgeton, New Jersey, said, "Typically, when you get a magazine, you probably read only the articles that pertain to your place in your organization. It's a good idea to read them all because in this magazine there was an article about a baby bottle fundraiser." Later she wrote, "Again, thank you for your great article, 'Nickel-and-Diming It for Life.' Because of Dinah's detailed 'how-to' section, since Mother's Day we have raised almost $57,000, helping us to forego three other fundraising events. These events together raised less than half that amount! Churches continue to call (one for a second round in the same year!), enthusiasm runs high, and most importantly, new relationships have been made. We have been truly blessed!"
