FRONT AND CENTER

These are exciting times for the PCC/CPC ministry! Not only are many centers seeing increasing traffic, but forward-thinking centers are also expanding their list of services to include things such as family counseling, medical clinic services, and STD testing. These centers have taken to heart the motto: "Be all that you can be." They are also diligently seeking sources for remuneration for those services outside the normal funding streams.

The conversion of centers to the medical clinic model has resulted in a tremendous increase in traffic for those centers. Centers that choose to become medical clinics also see a different clientele—a woman who is abortion vulnerable—and not someone who just is looking for free services.

In addition to providing services to women with unplanned pregnancies, centers are starting to reach out to churches in their community with both abstinence training and post-abortion syndrome counseling. These activities help centers better integrate into the life of the community and give centers more opportunities for ministry and financial support.

While the life-and-death work of non-medical crisis pregnancy centers is just as important as it's ever been, the marketplace is looking for more. The development of the medical model for the conversion of counseling-only pregnancy care centers is something that every board of every center in the country should consider seriously. "Going medical" probably takes less money than you think and could greatly enhance the scope, effectiveness, and durability of your ministry.
