Exciting Times!
The Care Net conference in Atlanta in early October saw an attendance of more than 800 CPC/PCC leaders and workers. The atmosphere was upbeat, the displays were many, and the sessions were inspiring. At that conference was a small army of dedicated volunteers re-arming, refreshing, and recharging to go do battle on the streets of America. Of course, I was immediately reminded of a biblical story.
The story of David and Goliath is one of my favorites. Over the last twenty years in business, I've seen the occasional corporate conflict of a similar mismatch. Such is our battle. A small volunteer army with money contributed by a faithful few is engaged against the multi-billion-dollar-a-year abortion industry. One thing is sure. God is winning the battle for the hearts and minds of those who find themselves in crisis pregnancies. It's truly a David vs. Goliath contest.
What makes the difference? Why is a small army able to defeat a large one? It really comes down to having heart! David was a man after the heart of God. Goliath wasn't. David had the God of the entire universe on his side. Goliath didn't. David had the name and reputation of God to defend. Goliath didn't.
We should be encouraged by the victories we are seeing. They may seem like small victories to the media, but to us they are large victories of the heart.
May God help us to be faithful as we realize what the old evangelist, Bob Jones, Sr., said: "You and God make a majority in any community."
