God Is Able To Stop Abortion

 "Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen" (Ephesians 3:20-21).
God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, and He has proven it to me by countless miracles throughout my lifetime. The first miracle I remember in my adult life was when my son was conceived. To be honest, I wasn't even worthy of a miracle. I was living in sin. However, God's goodness is not dependent on mine. He causes the rain to fall on the righteous and the unrighteous.
Unmarried and pregnant, I knew abortion was wrong, but my boyfriend insisted I have one. He made the appointment. I cried. For three days I struggled with my conscience. The day before the appointment, I made my decision. I canceled the appointment even if it meant losing my boyfriend. That evening I waited for him to come home from work. As I waited I prayed, "God, please give me the courage to stand firm in my decision."
He pulled his car into the driveway, came inside, and plopped on the couch. "We have to talk," he said. "We can't go through with this abortion." Relief flooded my soul as he continued. "Something happened today that totally changed my mind," he said. "I was struggling with my conscience all morning. I just didn't have any peace. I decided to take a walk on my lunch hour to clear my head."
"I passed by a hooker," he continued, "who was pregnant out to here." He illustrated with his arms how big she was. "She asked me if I was looking for a good time, and I told her, 'No.' I walked a few more blocks then turned around and went back to the hooker. 'Why are you doing this in your condition?' I asked her. She said, 'Because it's my job.' So I asked her, 'Why didn't you just have an abortion? Wouldn't that have made your job a lot easier?' She said, 'Mister, I love my baby. And besides, I don't believe in killing a helpless baby.'"
He shook his head and looked over at me. "That really shocked me," he said. "I never thought about abortion as killing someone defenseless. I walked on until I came to a big old church. Something drew me inside." (He hadn't been in church for years.) "I sat down in one of the pews," he said, "and then I got on my knees and started praying. 'God, forgive me,' I wept. 'I'm a bigger sinner than that prostitute. Forgive me for wanting to kill my baby.'"
He looked at me with tears in his eyes. "I'm canceling the appointment." Then I cried, too, and we hugged.
Our son is 21 years old now. He is by far the most tenderhearted young man I have ever met. God's hand has been on his life since conception. I will never forget the prostitute who preached the sermon that saved his life!
